Overcome imposter syndrome

You're doing well, have a good job / business and are achieving. You don't feel like you earned it. You've been lucky to get the breaks / jobs you've got so far. The little voice in your head says your luck will run out, you will be discovered soon. They will find out you can't really do the job, you're not really good enough. You second guess and question yourself and your actions. You dismiss praise and feel uncomfortable when you receive positive feedback. You are likely to procrastinate, take on too much work, feel anxious and catastrophize. It's exhausting. You want to feel different, to have more confidence and self-belief. You want to believe others when they tell you you're doing well. You want to be able to follow your dreams instead of settling.

How I will help: I will help you to understand that negative voice in your head. Where it comes from and what it says. We will look at how you make sense of your world and will examine your stories. What are they and where do they come from. Do these stories serve or diminish your life. We will collect and use evidence to call out your stories, to diminish negative self-talk, stop unhelpful thought patterns and change habits.

Benefits you will experience:

  • you will understand yourself better, be able to recognise your achievements and accept praise.

  • you will have greater confidence to go for promotion, get a new job, be able to negotiate a pay increase. The negative self-talk will be quieter and no longer in control.

Testimonials

‘Helen was an absolutely fantastic coach, and I found the whole experience much more helpful and impactful than I'd expected. I was struggling with a lack confidence and imposter syndrome which I've experienced for many years, with some significant impacts on my mental health at times. I've noticed a real, tangible improvement in these areas since our coaching sessions began. Helen asked brilliant questions which guided my thinking, helped me to understand the crux of the issues I was dealing with, and supported me to find solutions. I felt heard, understood and respected, and safe to express myself and work through things without fear of judgement. We did some helpful exercises together and I felt motivated to reflect on / implement what we'd discussed in session in my own time. Overall a fab experience’. Tom, Novelist

'Working with Helen has given me the time and space to reflect more deeply about challenges at work and address my “imposter syndrome”. This has built up my confidence and helped me to prepare for a work assessment and promotion. Identifying and reflecting on my strengths with my coach and using positive psychology has also helped me to clarify my future career aspirations. I have learnt a lot, both about myself as well as strategies that I can use at work in the future'. Eddie, Programme Manager

‘I had just been promoted when I started coaching, and gaining confidence was one of the main objectives for coaching. Helen helped me to identify specific circumstances when my lack of confidence could be an issue, and she helped me to develop techniques to boost my confidence. As we identified specific situations where I would be able to practise the techniques, I was always able to put them into practice and to see the results right away. I would then discuss the results with Helen at the following session, which would help me to reflect on and embed my new approach. This hasn’t been my first coaching experience, but it has certainly been my first successful coaching experience. Helen has been an excellent coach, who understood from day one what my needs were, helped me to identify techniques to tackle my concerns, and has helped me throughout the sessions to remain focussed and to review and improve the techniques we discussed, to obtain the goals we set at the very first session. I am really grateful to Helen for all her work and help’. Jaume, Head of People Management
